KRISTEL A. PUENTE. A NAME YOU REALLY NEED TO KNOW! – #GFB

SLTV: What’s your name or fashion identity?
KP: Kristel A. Puente

SLTV: How long have you been blogging?
KP: First time

SLTV: What do you do for a living?
KP: I am a professional photographer

SLTV: Why is fashion important?
KP: Fashion says a lot about you without words. Even the choice to not care about clothes says something about who you are. That is why I love it. I can choose to be who I want to be that day by what I wear. It is liberating.

SLTV: What is your dream?
KP: My dream is to leave better human beings than myself in this world. Then, hope that they will make better humans than them. If you choose to have children, it is the most important thing you can do to make a difference in the world. One day, it could lead to an army of legendary people.

SLTV: What is your favorite quote?
KP: “Reality can be beaten with enough imagination.” ― Mark Twain

Note From The Style Director
Every time you live to a new city, certain people (usually in your chosen industry) will reach your radar pretty quickly. Kristel’s work was among the first I had the pleasure of experiencing and I can’t quite remember how we met each other, but I DO remember what she was wearing! A men’s blazer, shiny in some areas, beautiful lapel. Her hair pulled back in a nape grazing, men’s european ponytail and of course, her best accessory of all, her camera. She was GREAT! A gorgeous androgynous sight with bright red lips. I’m sure I ran to take a picture of her (without her knowing) and soon, someone was whispering in my ear, “That’s the artist of the photographs you were admiring last week.” “FANTASTIC” I thought. “This woman obviously has a voice I want to get to know.” Fast forward to now – Kristel responds to the casting call for Style Lush TV – and although she’s hesitant because she’s has never blogged before, I pretty much BEG her to just take the plunge with us and Go For It! She ignites a sense of wonder through her pictures, she truly has incredible street style and soon, she will share it through her highly anticipated blogs. I’m very excited and proud to say that we have asked Kristel to be a regular here at Style Lush TV so please follow her personal pages online and check back here to read and SEE more of her wonderfully artistic thoughts.

PhotoFluid
By: Kristel A. Puente

Welcome to PhotoFluid…a space to liberate my inspirations, imagination, finely aged thoughts, and artwork. My name is Kristel Puente and I am a local San Antonio photographer and artist. To be honest, I have never blogged before, but this seemed like a great place to muse over all the things that drive me to create and collaborate. I am ceaselessly inspired by other artists in my community, and I enjoy how we drive each other to explore the things that make us want to be artistic people. What you will find here is that I love to question everything and hope you will too. Especially if anything I post makes you uncomfortable, then we are getting somewhere.

The goal of my artistic work is to make the viewer feel emotion and awaken a thought, thus, the sometimes uncomfortable nature of my work. After taking a look at the type of art I gravitate to, I have realized that it is heavily steeped in culture and fashion. I always think of clothing first in my creative photography, and absolutely love working with other artists to make visions in my head a reality. Visions of which can be bizarre to say the least.

From the time is was a little girl, I loved dressing up. Not in pretty dresses and fancy shoes, but more like what my mind was imagining at the time. I was always daydreaming, thinking up fantastical unrealistic stories with imaginary friends. I would pretend to be people in movies and my parents indulged my eccentric tendencies very cautiously. From Wonder Woman, Michael Jackson, Fred Astaire, Lauren Bacall, Kathrine Hepburn, or my mother and father’s style.

I have always approached my fashion choices as more of a persona than a style. I ask myself, “Who do I want to be today” rather than “Is this in the latest magazines?” I remember being in college as a young woman and hurting my ankle. I was told I had to walk with a cane for a few weeks. I think I had twisted it after having a little too much fun out one evening. I decided I would take that dreadful opportunity to dress in three piece men’s suits with ties and a long dress coat. I ditched the ugly plastic trash they wanted me to walk around with, and used my late grandfather’s beautiful wood cane. He used to dress like Gary Cooper. Mr. Vara was tall, quiet and always impeccably starched and pressed. I copied his style, and I worked that cane. Something about that gave me strength. Instead of feeling like an idiot because I had to walk with a cane at school, I felt empowered. Which brings me to my next interest. Gender identity. Which I will touch on here, and though out my future posts.

I create concept driven art. I pull and twist my dreams and statements though the glass. I am a storyteller. I enjoy guilty pleasures and things that are weird or misunderstood. All of which I will post about, and hope you check back with me talk about. My photography is fluid. It flows through art, culture, fashion, gender and history. It pours though me, and out though glass, onto paper. It is PhotoFluid.

Burgundy Woods has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music/Music Industries from the University of the Incarnate Word and a Design & Trend Forecasting degree from The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles. She began her career in Hollywood, California, where she worked for major record labels such as Virgin Records, Interscope Records, EMI Music and Capitol Records. Later after attaining her fashion degree, she was discovered by MySpace, Inc. and was immediately hired to be their Fashion Curator starring and producing her show THE B-SPOT Fashion & Trends on their Fashion & Shopping channel. During this time, online media was in its infancy. She and her colleagues pioneered and molded the online fashion media industry resulting in over 10 years of experience in fashion news and 20 years of experience in fashion video content. Many of the stylized ideas and tools that were launched through these platforms are still used to this day as industry standards for online fashion media. Later, with her extensive experience in developing online fashion media, she continued the show independently and has successfully rebranded THE B-SPOT into Style Lush TV online fashion network. Now, with over nine professional years in online fashion media and trend forecasting, she continues to pioneer, maneuver and develop her industry. She is currently the Editor-in-Chief of Style Lush TV. She is also the President of the Texas Fashion Industry Initiative.
