A rare intimate event with Annie Leibovitz! Catch highlights here.

The photography icon, Annie Leibovitz returned to the Tobin Center in San Antonio, Texas this past week to mark the publication of a revised and expanded edition of Annie Leibovitz at Work (Phaidon), but before the glamour of the big evening event, she made a luxury day-stop at Neiman Marcus, and for a select few, she spoke intimately and up close and personal about her love of Texas, Texans and her work.

The event took place at the Neiman Marcus in San Antonio, Texas, located at The Shops at La Cantera, from 1pm-3pm in the Couture Salon on the second floor of their department store.

“I love Texas!” Ms. Leibovitz proclaimed. “I can’t tell you how much I enjoy coming back here and the people, especially San Antonio!” She continued on to explain a bit about her book tour and her personal ties to San Antonio through her work.

Originally published in 2008, Annie Leibovitz at Work was written with young photographers in mind, but it provides an illuminating view of Leibovitz’s photographic practice for a broad audience. There are stories behind some of her best-known images—Richard Nixon’s resignation, the Rolling Stones on tour, Queen Elizabeth II—as well as discussions of lighting, cameras, studios, photojournalism, working with writers, and the ten things she is always asked. Along with discussion revolving around this, and her second book, Annie Leibovitz Portraits 2005-2016, a lucky audience of about 40 people were given the rare opportunity to experience a Q&A session with the photography legend.

During the Q&A Session she was asked about her photography session with the Queen of England, her various San Antonio photography subjects such as the Queens Ball and what became of those photos and of course, the ubiquitous, ever asked question – “How do you put your subjects at ease?” All of which, she answered with her signature casual-elegance, and with such insight that every patron was sitting on the edge of their ghost chair awaiting more from the photography icon.

In closing, patrons stood in line to have their books signed and to have their picture taken with the guest of honor. Champagne flowed, happy conversation took place and charming confections showcasing Annie’s book cover were handed to patrons as they awaited their turn to get their brief time with the legend.
