Met Gala 2019 RECAP: Camp Notes on Fashion.

Met Gala 2019 RECAP: Camp Notes on Fashion.

The Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Art Museum in New York debuted the exhibit titled “Camp: Notes on Fashion” on May 6th. The theme is inspired by Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay ‘Notes on ‘Camp’, which is widely credited to have introduced the notion of ‘Camp’ to the world. What is ‘Camp’? Sontag defines the term as “its love of the unnatural, of artifice and exaggeration.” Noting that with camp, it’s not about talking in “terms of beauty” but rather “in terms of the degree of artifice, of stylization.” To put into simpler terms, it was time for the stars to go above and beyond on the gorgeous pink carpet. And we were definitely not disappointed. 2019 might just be the best MET yet. The show will be presented at the galleries of the Met’s Fifth Avenue location from May 9th through October 8th, 2019.

The 2019 Met Gala was one for the books. The annual star-studded fund raising event centered on the ideal of fashion through irony, parody, theatricality, and exaggeration. The stars came to bring the most avant-garde fashion to the the steps of the Met. Aside from the host Anna Wintour, Editor-in-Chief at Vogue, the co-hosts for this year’s Met Gala were Harry Styles and Lady GaGa, who are campy in a nutshell, always stepping out of the box and making a statement. The dress code was outstanding this year as most attendees stuck to the theme. Here’s a look at some of the most campy Red Carpet moments.
