16 Jul Stella McCartney Conquers LVMH and Thinks Green
It’s one giant leap from one powerhouse to another. According to Women’s Wear Daily, LVMHMoët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, the world’s largest luxury group, said on Monday that it had entered into a new marriage with Stella McCartney, the British fashion house that was partly owned by its top competitor, Kering. In addition to taking a stake in the fashion house LVMH has also named McCartney as a special adviser to LVMH chairman and chief executive officer Bernard Arnault and the executive committee members.
The luxury titan called Monday’s announcement “the beginning of a beautiful story together, and we are convinced of the great long-term potential of her house.”
First on this designers agenda, sustainable fashion. Ms. McCartney’s very public veganism and outspoken adherence to organic beauty, along with her high public profile have combined to make her a prominent figure in high fashion eco-activism. Although it’s a large mountain to climb McCartney isn’t shying away, she is looking to break down barriers and LVMH is allowing her to pave the way and shout it out loud while doing so.
Unveiled today, the Adidas by Stella McCartney campaign. The collection was designed with the environment in mind and looking to serve a purpose and serve for change. Joining the group is pop star, Grimes, who will be the face for the collection.
In a statement to Women’s Wear Daily, the designer stated, “Performance and style are at the heart of every piece Adidas by Stella McCartney creates, but we believe that this shouldn’t come at a cost to the planet. Our focus for this collection was to incorporate fabrics that help us get one step closer to our future goal of high-performing, sustainable performance wear.”
The collection is currently available to pre-order on the Stella McCartney website.
This woman, this fashion designer, has an opportunity to accelerate the full potential of her brand alongside the LVMH family all while holding the majority of ownership and making way for a better, greener tomorrow. Bravo! It’s officially a new generation in fashion.
