Mamba x Legends: An Athleisure Collection Launches To Honor Kobe & Gianna Bryant.

California-based athleisure label Legends has launched its Mamba x Legends collaboration collection, a partnership between the brand and Mamba & Mambacita Sports Academy in honor of Kobe and Gianna Bryant. Legends has been the official apparel provider for Mamba & Mambacita Sports Academy since the program’s launch in 2018. Previously, only members and athletes affiliated with the program received the apparel, but this launch, which is a limited release of 1,000 units in total, is the first time the branded apparel is available to the public.

By using the most innovative developers and factories in the world, Legends have been creating the most technical and premium streetwear inspired performance apparel for the modern athlete that is looking for the best product, on and off the field, all over the world. Legends is designed by athletes, and rigorously tested in all environments, resulting in a high performing and athlete validated product line. The brand decided to launch now to boost morale for the global basketball community that was deeply impacted by the sudden death of the Bryants and their fellow passengers from the helicopter accident in January, as well as the suspension of the NBA season due to COVID-19. The collection is intended to celebrate the Bryants’ lives, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Mamba & Mambacita Sports Academy.

The 10-piece collection is comprised of sportswear and apparel such as T-shirts, hoodies and athletic shorts and socks, all bearing the Legends and Mamba & Mambacita Sports Academy logo of a snake surrounding the letter M. Kobe Bryant was always inspired by the black mamba super sized snake. It’s physical characteristics helped inspire Bryant’s game. “The mamba can strike with 99% accuracy at maximum speed, in rapid succession,” Bryant told ESPN. “That’s the kind of basketball precision I want to have.” The same inspiration transcended beyond Bryant’s physical game. “Mamba mentality – it’s a way of life,” he said. “It’s not an attitude per say. It’s a way to live, which is trying to get better every day.”

All pieces in the Legends x Mamba & Mambacita Sports Academy are ranging in price from $20 to $105 and come in three colors: black, grey and white.

The Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation is focused on creating a positive impact through Sports. The Foundation aims to develop learning skills, enhancing character traits, and expanding personal values that ultimately empower and inspire self-confidence. The organization added “Mambacita” to also honor the former Laker legend’s 13-year-old daughter, Gianna “Gigi” Bryant, who died alongside her father and seven other people in a helicopter crash last month. “Because there is no #24 without #2, we have updated the Mamba Sports Foundation to now be called the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation,” Vanessa Bryant wrote on Instagram.

In addition to offering sports training services to underprivileged athletes, the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation also provides equal opportunities to young women in sports. Gianna Bryant was a talented athlete who many predicted would carry out her father’s legacy someday as a professional women’s basketball player.
