MAC Cosmetics Celebrates Selena with a Second Collection, “Selena La Reina”.

Music icon, Selena Quintanilla is being honored through a new makeup collection with MAC. The first MAC x Selena Collection nearly broke the internet when it released back in 2016. They received a pretty overwhelming response, in which it sold out in a matter of minutes. Now the brand is giving fans of the Tejano star a second chance at getting their hands on makeup inspired by her. The brand announced that a second capsule collection honoring Selena will be launching tomorrow, on April 21st on MAC Cosmetics.

With inspiration from Selena and all her influences, this new launch has expanded from the original with a many-piece makeup collection capturing the essence of the Queen of Tejano music. It draws inspiration from Selena’s iconic rhinestone bra with a holographic feel for the packaging throughout the collection. The range includes 13 products: three lipsticks, a bronzer, a mascara, a liquid eyeliner, a lip gloss, five individual eye shadows, and a powder brush — that were all named after some of the singer’s most iconic songs. This time around, fans will get four cream lipstick colors, four lipglass shades, three matte liquid lipsticks, two lip pencils, an eight-color eyeshadow palette, and a highlighter.

In this Selena la Reina collection, inspiration drew from “Selena’s unique music style, distinctive global influence, and undeniable beauty,” according to a press release from the makeup company. MAC has been working closely with Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla, over the past few years to get the collection off the ground.

In a recent interview with E-News, Quintanilla is “excited about this launch, and clearly it represents a very important moment in my sister’s legacy and what she represents to her audience and to her fanbase. I think that this also is a representation and a celebration of, not just her as an artist but also her as a Latina and a role model.”
