The return of Hollywood Vintage Glamour, get to know Alicia Miranda.

When we think of classic Hollywood style, we think of names like Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe, but nestled in a lovely corner of San Antonio, Texas, a new brand, Alicia Miranda, is striving to be yet another name to remember when it comes to this era of vintage style.
Formally known as NuEve, this company had just come off the heels of launching its grand opening this past year. But as many entrepreneurs know, change and inspiration can come swiftly and when your gut tells you a new direction is necessary, you sometimes have to jump at the chance to build your brand’s identity more genuinely. Case in point, Alicia Miranda.
We had the chance to meet with founder and head designer of Alicia Miranda, Sara Kluss, so she could give us the details about the sudden change and fully share the inspiring story behind the re-brand of NuEve into Alicia Miranda.

SLTV: Hi Sara, we’re excited to hear and share your big news. Can you tell us, who is Alicia Miranda and why did this inspire the re-branding of your recently launched company, Nueva?
SK: Alicia Miranda is my Abuela, my mother’s mother. My grandmother is a big influence in my life.
She introduced me to sewing, old Hollywood movies and vintage fashion. My favorite photo of
my grandmother is this photography shot of just a close up of her face she took in the early 1940s,
it encompasses all the inspiration I need to make beautiful clothing.

SLTV: Re-branding can be very intimidating, but it sounds like you have an empowering new mission with the Alicia Miranda brand. Can you tell us what your new mission is?
SK: The mission is to design vintage inspired clothing in modern sizing that you can wear for a
variety of occasions. We want to create slow fashion so we don’t overproduce and our
customers can have unique and timeless pieces. All designs will have an attention to detail with
having a vintage clothing detail in every design we create.
SLTV: If you could pick 3 vintage Hollywood women to describe the Alicia Miranda style, who would they be and why?
SK:
There’s so many vintage Hollywood women whose style personifies our brand. If I have to pick
3 I would say Dolores Del Rio, Audrey Hepburn and Twiggy. Dolores Del Rio was one of the first groundbreaking female Mexican movie stars to crossover into American films, I just love her beauty and style. She was a trailblazer for dressing well, and was one of my grandmother’s favorite old Hollywood stars. That is what Alicia Miranda represents. Audrey Hepburn was one of a kind who wore simple, modest and timeless pieces. I want our collections to also feel confident and the easy of wearing our pieces year around. Lastly, Alicia Miranda brand has a fun side, like Twiggy. Twiggy was vivacious and wore a lot of fun colors, prints and textiles from the 60s. We will also have mod trendy styles for the fashionista today.

SLTV: What was the best fashion advice you received from your grandmother and how does that embody the Alicia Miranda women today?
SK: My grandmother would always say, “Wear clothing and accessories that will enhance your beauty and don’t wear too much makeup.” The Alicia Miranda women has inner beauty and wears her confidence with poise.

SLTV: What did you learn from your brand Nueva and what do hope to do differently with Alicia Miranda brand?
SK: I learned so much from my former brand, NuEve, and with Alicia Miranda I’m taking a few steps back and doing much more thorough research to learn who my customers are, and what I should design for them, making it a more personal customized experience. When I started, I was naive to think that I could try to do it all myself or “figure it out” along the way. After much research about the vintage maternity wear market, I found that
the market isn’t big enough to sustain a full business so I had to re-strategize. I’ve also learned that it’s ok to ask for help and that you can’t do it all yourself. I now have a business coach, who has been helpful in guiding me with tips that I can add to my business skills that I obtained through my first venture.
I dream Alicia Miranda will be a lifestyle brand that uses focus on the 40s and 50s styles, including pin up, but using modern trendy shapes and textiles to incorporate into our clothing. We want to be known for vintage inspired. We also hope to provide more inclusive sizes such as petite, plus size and maternity pieces. I’m currently running a survey right now to understand my client better and would love an opportunity for feed back from all women who love vintage fashion. SLTV: We can’t wait to see how your grandmothers legacy will carry out through the Alicia Miranda brand. When do you anticipate launching and were can we shop AM?
SK: Our launch day is planned for this summer, where we will start with small production runs of dresses, tops and bottoms. We will also set up an Etsy store where women can shop our looks. Next year we plan to do a full collection of tops, bottoms and dresses. This first year we’re focusing on brand awareness and building trust with our clients.
