10 Sep Engineer turned Fashionista develops a Personal Styling App: Meet ClosetMelody!
Ever find yourself staring at your closet, clueless with nothing to wear? “As if!” Sometimes we just don’t have the time, inspiration, or luxury to find that perfect outfit. The day to day challenges of personal styling can be frustrating, especially in light of our current world and the everyday circumstances we have to juggle in today’s society. But one local San Antonio business engineer turned fashion enthusiast has created something you’ll love! Inspired by the classic fashionista movie “Clueless”, we caught the exclusive interview with the Texas native, Daisy Egeolu, who is here to help you find the right styles by utilizing your closet with her new digital personal styling app that also incorporates a weather feature to ensure you stay stylish while being prepared for the day. ClosetMelody, unlike any other IOS Fashion Style app on the market, goes beyond your ordinary styling application tool and pairs the perfect outfit from your closet while making you feel and look like a total “Betty.”

About Daisy Egeolu
Daisy Egeolu, owner and founder of ClosetMelody
Egeolu, like many of us, fell in love with the iconic movie Clueless at a young age, including getting lost in magazines like Vogue and Harper Bazaar, just as Cher Horowitz would. “My personal style growing up was casual and comfortable wearing t-shirt and jeans, even throughout high school. Once in college, I grew into incorporating more chic glam looks stated Egeolu.” After graduating from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY and pursuing her MBA at St. Edwards University in Austin, TX, Egeolu soon became the product manager overseeing the mobile applications department for Staples in 2017. Little did she know her engineering career and passion for fashion would soon merge to form ClosetMelody, her very own personal styling digital closet for fashionistas on the go. In 2018 she began developing her digital fashion dream all on her own. By 2019, she tested her app in countries like Australia, in which feedback provided her the adequate tools to add important features to perfect ClosetMelody. As of now, her app has over 9,000 subscribers worldwide and growing.

Navigating Closet Melody Experience
Like most digital outfit planners you must first set up your account, profile and then upload pictures of items in your closet. This is the tedious part but worth the invested time which will shave minutes off your overall styling routine. Important to note, this app is only available in IOS and can not be accessed on a MAC or PC. Once you’ve downloaded the app on your iPhone and created your account, it is best to navigate and get familiar with the 5 tabs at the bottom of the screen. The 5 tabs include the Home, Closet, Outfit planner or outfit calendar, the Discover page, and your Profile page. After navigating the 5 tabs, at the home screen, it asks you to add items that direct you to the closet on-boarding process.
The onboarding process has 4 categories which are selecting your fashion basics, adding your top 20 closet favorites, a bulk edit option, and get outfit suggestions. Overall the onboarding option became a vital first step in building a foundation on providing a general concept of how this outfit planner operates. When navigating the app, the most important tab was the closet. Once we uploaded a few basics such as tops, bottoms, dresses, shoes and a couple outwear pieces, the app was able to generate a few different looks I could pair with one another.
What was most unique about ClosetMelody was the body type selection option in the profile tab. It is important to know your body type to save time and money on clothing items that may not fit while shopping online. In the near future, the app’s auto generator will soon be able to match fashion influencers to give you more fashion inspiration and provide the trendy stores they shop . Overall, this is one feature that we have not seen in other styling applications, and are excited to see this development.
