The fashion industry has always been know for its evolving atmosphere of style, diversity, and innovation, but who would have ever thought that a pandemic would bring its most dramatic and revolutionary change. Despite our ongoing challenges to stand out within a new virtual market, Austin, Texas model agency DX2 Model Management, founded by Doug Douglas, has shown a light at the end of the tunnel for his models. He continues to work safely and diligently in creating opportunities abroad and so we caught up with Douglas and his elite models, Brittney Elzy and Callie Stegemeier, in an exclusive zoom interview to get the details on their recent success. The girls have found new representation with international agencies, deepening and expanding their careers to new heights, and they share with us the details about the journey as well as the emotions behind doing this all under the looming arena of COVID-19.

SLTV: Hi Doug, hi ladies! What an exciting moment this is for you all. We just love hearing about our Texas talent and agencies striving for success. We are #TexasStrong, and I believe your dedication has shown just that. So tell me, how did this opportunity unfold and who are the agencies that have signed Elzy and Stegemeier recently?
Douglas, DX2 : Thank you for having us Via Zoom Kaia! It’s a bitter-sweet moment, as I have enjoyed coaching and training these talented young ladies but I’m excited for them and the agency. This opportunity started this past summer when several of my models walked in a virtual fashion show for Eido Swimwear during Miami Swim Week. Designer, Tayo Ishola, Nigerian native and past fashion model, also had her long time agent present from Europe. When the agent caught glimpse of Brittney during the final walk, the agent stated to me, “I saw her beautiful diversified look and her wink at the camera, and I knew I had to have her.” After the show, the agent and I caught up and immediately signed Brittney to a European contract with Isis Models London. Once it is safe to travel, Elzy will be walking in fashion shows in London for big names like Gucci, Miu Miu, and others. Brittney is now signed with 5 agencies, Isis Model London, PRM Agency London, WAVE Models Milan, MIRR Germany and DX2 Model Management as her mother agency.

SLTV: This is fantastic, and it truly shows your dedication to your models and how you are making opportunities rise during these difficult times. So Brittney is now signed to 5 agencies, let’s talk about Ms. Callie and her newly found success and singing to Isis Model London as well.
DX2: Callie has been modeling with multiple agencies, but when she came to me six months ago, she was in search of growing her modeling career beyond Texas. Although she is new to DX2 agency, she is phenomenal and I saw great talent and knew she wouldn’t be with me too long. I sent her out to about eight agencies around the world, to get their feedback and most of them stated she was too tall. Callie stands about 6′. At this time, I sent a photo of her to Isis Model London and without hesitation, we had her in the contract with them as well. So now Callie will have DX2 as her mother agency and Isis Model London agent abroad.

SLTV: How exciting and so now I would love to hear from you ladies! How are you feeling and what has it been like to know you are now signed to agencies in Europe?
Elzy: I was so shocked and thought it was a dream and just told myself I needed to wake up! It’s amazing, but I am also nervous.
Stegemeier: I also couldn’t believe it! I have been working in the industry locally and really was wanting to advance into a larger market. When I found DX2, I had no idea it would happen this quickly.

SLTV: I know this very exciting and we are rooting for both of your success! At this time, traveling abroad is becoming more difficult and unpredictable with the pandemic. How do you feel about this? How do your families feel?
Elzy: For myself and my family it has been very nerve-wracking. We’re all on the edge of our seats wanting to know the next move. At this time, we are mentally preparing and trying to stay up-to-date with all the answers to questions that we have. My family’s biggest concern is that they do not want me to get stranded in a foreign country as they are closing off airlines. It’s a very overwhelming time for us, but once things clear up and on God’s timing, everything will fall into place.
Stegemeier: My family is my biggest cheerleader. I’ve had their 100% support throughout all my creative pursuits. They definitely have concerns about my well-being and my mom would miss me terribly, however they are ecstatic I am following my dreams and manifesting my happiness.
SLTV: What advice can you give aspiring models who have maybe feeling defeated since starting their career?
Elzy: As for aspiring models out there facing any kind of challenge, I say, be a go-getter! Never stop trying and working on your craft. If you’ve been rejected, take constructive criticism and go to work on it, especially during this time. Things don’t always come easy, but if you put in the extra time, you’ll come out on top when it’s your time to shine.
Stegemeier: As for aspiring models, I know that work is tough right now in both the small and larger industries, but I would suggest sticking locally and finding hair salons or dressmakers in need of business promotional photos. Also, start following local fashion industry Facebook pages, that’s how I found out about DX2 Model Management. Don’t rely on payment when you’re starting off, do it for building your own portfolio and get your name out there.
“We are still hanging on to the day when the industry opens up again in person, but for now, and until then, we are working strongly on our online presence, stated Douglas.” These young ladies will face new challenges and be amongst supermodels such as Gigi Hadid and will walk for major brand labels like Gucci and Brad, but we will just keep practicing and getting stronger in preparation for a new season. Brittney and Callie will continue their training through DX2 Model Management and have expressed that they are excited to pave the way for all more models at DX2 Model Management.
